Gary Woody, 56, passed away late Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, just a little more than an hour shy of his 57th birthday. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Memorial Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home. Gary was born Jan. 13, 1953, in Columbia to James “Jimmy” and Mabel Lee Woody. He was an avid outdoorsman but had come to enjoy spending time in front of his computer. He explored every new interest, of which he had many, with tenacity and attention to detail, winning the respect of those who knew him. His friends also knew him as fun-loving and possessing a quick wit. Gary was the general manager at Consolidated Public Water Supply District No.1, where he invested nearly 37 years assisting in the development of the rural water district and mentoring his colleagues. He was a thoughtful, loving husband and an awesome father. Gary was proud of his sons. The world has lost a special man. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Eileen; two sons, James and Craig; one brother, Dale; and mother. He was preceded in death by his father.
