Cynthia Cooper Shaw: science illustrator, publisher, naturalist, scuba diver, and children's book author
Cindy has agreed to serve as the editor of the Map on our site. She was one of the first gullible people to agree to serve on the "digital committee" for our 2011 Reunion. This committee has an open and ever-evolving list of members -- be the first person on your block to join and become adept at Skype conferencing (a side benefit).
Cindy lives in Richland, Washington, where she is an Earth and marine science illustrator and writer whose work often takes her to rocky places or underwater for field sketching and reference photography. Cindy also owns Aurelia Press - a small, independent publisher of supplementary materials for science education (for which she's got bigger plans in her next life). Her kids' book, Grouper Moon is used as a science-literature connection in many classrooms across the U.S. and the Caribbean. She has a BA from the University of Hawaii-Manoa (zoology) and an MA from Washington State University (education).
Cindy's other life is with hubby Karl, a nuclear physicist (a former tenured professor "gone bad" who is now with Battelle, involved with keeping you and yours safe in the field of nuclear non-proliferation). He's "in the air" a great deal, but Cindy's fine with that because it means plenty of airmiles to support the traveling she and Karl like to do together. Together they have seven kids, a truly motley crew of individuals ranging in ages 15-30, who all make sure there is never a dull moment in their parents' lives.
