Debbie (Sheets) Russell should probably have the nickname, "Kewpie Lady." Sometime in 1990 when her oldest daughter, Jennifer, was a sophomore at Hickman Debby started finding and collecting kewpie dolls. In a very short time she had expanded her holdings to 800+ kewpies.
Since then, she and her husband of 39 years, Curt Russell (Hickman ’69), can't plan their vacations without locating antique malls and flea markets along the way.
She supports her jones for more kewpies by working for Missouri Cardiovascular Specialists across Broadway from Boone Hospital (formerly known as Boone County Hospital). She made the move from Columbia Regional Hospital a few years ago after MU bought it.
Together, Curt & Debby have two lovely daughters, Jennifer (married to Jason) and Robin (married to Jesse who is currently deployed with the Army in Afghanistan where he flies Apache helicopters). All five grandchildren (Jennifer’s Jacob and Joshua and Robin’s Wyatt, Hunter and Megan) are the focus of attention at every family gathering -- as shown here on the backyard swing where the Kewpie Lady sits with her very own little kewpie, Megan.
