Doug Ballard, 61, of Columbia died Thursday, April 16, 2015, in Columbia.
Visitation will be Monday, April 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Columbia.
Doug was born in Iberia on Sept. 1, 1953, a son of Glen F. and Alma Glee (Huddleston) Ballard. On July 24, 1976, in Columbia, he married Judy Neal. Judy preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 2007.
Mr. Ballard had worked as building inspector for the city of Columbia and the city of Mexico and was retired. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Most of all, he loved spending time with his granddaughters, who were the joy of his life.
Survivors include one son, Jim Ballard of Columbia; one daughter, Sarah Gasperson and partner Alison Smith of Columbia; one brother, Mike Ballard and wife Sue of Richland; two granddaughters, Katie Gasperson and Finley Gasperson Smith; and his four-legged companion, Oscar.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Glenda Albertson.
